More than two dozen residents of Granbury, Texas, have sued Marathon Digital, claiming its Bitcoin mining site is creating unbearable noise. In the lawsuit, filed on October 4 in Hood County court, the group describes the noise from the mining facility as a “nuisance” that has led to physical and emotional health problems, including headaches, hearing loss, and worsened pre-existing conditions.
The lawsuit alleges that the constant noise and vibrations from the site have negatively impacted residents’ quality of life and property values. Some have also reported increased electricity bills due to the mine’s energy usage. The plaintiffs are seeking a permanent injunction to stop Marathon from producing excessive noise, along with compensation for damages.
Represented by Earthjustice, attorney Rodrigo Cantú stated that residents want Marathon to either mitigate the noise or shut down the facility. Marathon, which took over the mining site in January 2024, has yet to respond to the claims.
