The White House is planning to host officials from the cryptocurrency and prediction market industries next Wednesday, according to three people familiar with the plans who spoke on condition of anonymity.
Details still in flux
The agenda and guest list have yet to be finalized, the people said, and it remains unclear whether President Donald Trump himself will take part.
Executives from the traditional finance world may also be in the room.
The White House did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Two industries in Washington’s spotlight
Crypto and prediction markets have become two of the most closely watched corners of finance, and both have found a friendlier reception under Trump’s regulators than they did in previous years.
The gathering lands one day before the Commodity Futures Trading Commission convenes its new Innovation Advisory Committee, a panel stocked with executives from crypto, gambling, finance and prediction market firms.
Clarity Act awaits Senate action
The timing also coincides with the industry’s biggest legislative push in Washington.
The Clarity Act, a sweeping market structure bill and the sector’s top priority, is currently pending in the Senate.
Lawmakers are set to take up the measure next month once they return from the August recess.
