Steak ‘n Shake, a leading American fast food chain, has unveiled a limited-edition Bitcoin Steakburger to celebrate five months since it began accepting bitcoin payments globally via the Lightning Network.

The company, founded in 1934 and known for its steakburgers and milkshakes, operates hundreds of locations across the U.S. and Europe.

Its move to bitcoin payments was encouraged by prominent figures such as Jack Dorsey, co-founder of Twitter and Block, Inc., who publicly shared his own experience paying with bitcoin at the restaurant.

Savings from bitcoin payments

At the Bitcoin 2025 conference in Las Vegas, Steak ‘n Shake executive Dan Edwards revealed that the chain has reduced payment processing fees by approximately 50% thanks to customers choosing bitcoin over credit cards.

These savings highlight one of the practical advantages for merchants adopting bitcoin.

Bitcoin community support

Steak ‘n Shake has earned a loyal following among bitcoin enthusiasts, particularly after reversing plans to accept Ethereum following backlash from bitcoin maximalists.

The company reaffirmed its commitment to bitcoin-only payments with the launch of the Bitcoin Steakburger.

The chain expressed its gratitude, stating:

“Supplies are limited….just like Bitcoin.”
