Jimmy Song, Samson Mow, Parker Lewis, and John W. Ratcliff have launched ProductionReady, a new nonprofit focused on advancing open-source Bitcoin development through education and a conservative alternative Bitcoin client.

Why this matters for bitcoiners

The initiative addresses a concern that has been growing within the Bitcoin developer community:

That relying on one dominant implementation creates centralization risk.

ProductionReady argues that multiple well-maintained node implementations, each with broad developer and user support, would make the Bitcoin network more resilient and reduce single points of failure.

The nonprofit is structured as a U.S. 501(c)(3), meaning all donations are tax-deductible, and the organization says funding comes with no strings attached to preserve full independence.

What ProductionReady plans to build

The organization intends to fund a Bitcoin node implementation built on Bitcoin Core, with a focus on conservatism, stability, and fidelity to Bitcoin’s monetary properties.

Through early developer conversations, the board expects any implementation it supports would restore the OP_RETURN data limit to its previous default.

On BIP-110, the board noted that given the lack of broad user consensus at this stage, it is not expected to be included, though all considerations remain open.

Samson Mow, a director at ProductionReady, stated:

“As Bitcoin matures and the value stored on the network grows into the trillions, it becomes increasingly important to follow a conservative development path that can eventually lead to ossification. Having multiple well-maintained Bitcoin clients with significant adoption will bring greater balance to the ecosystem, ensuring that no single implementation can dictate the direction of development.”

Song’s vision for the project

Jimmy Song, one of Bitcoin’s most recognized educators, will lead the nonprofit’s developer education initiatives.

Song stated:

“A conservative implementation isn’t just a technical preference — it’s a statement that Bitcoin belongs to its users. We’re excited to begin this work and invite developers and supporters to join us on the ground floor.”

ProductionReady has already secured donations and commitments from several individuals and organizations, and is now opening public dialogue for community feedback and developer contributions.
