New York City Mayor Eric Adams, often referred to as the “Bitcoin Mayor,” has signed Executive Order 57 to create the Office of Digital Assets and Blockchain.
This move aims to position New York as a leading center for responsible blockchain innovation and financial technology.
Executive order launches first digital assets office
The newly established office will be led by Moises Rendon, a blockchain policy expert from the Office of Technology and Innovation, and will report to Chief Technology Officer Matthew Fraser.
Its mandate includes advising on digital asset policies, coordinating city agency projects, and engaging with industry leaders.
Adams stated:
“New York has always been the center of innovation. With this office, we’re embracing the technologies of tomorrow — growing our economy and expanding opportunities for underbanked communities.”
First Deputy Mayor Randy Mastro emphasized that the initiative keeps New York “ahead of the curve,” while CTO Fraser remarked that the office reflects the mayor’s bold vision to make New York the global capital for digital assets.
