- Seán Murray links Bitcoin's timeline to Jack Dorsey's family birthdays.
- Murray claims cryptographic clues suggest Satoshi and Dorsey are the same.
- Critics argue there is no definitive proof linking Dorsey to Bitcoin.
The debate over the true identity of Bitcoin’s creator, Satoshi Nakamoto, has resurfaced after financial news editor Seán Murray presented new findings connecting Jack Dorsey to Bitcoin’s origins.
Timeline connections
In a Feb. 15 post on X, Murray detailed various connections between Bitcoin’s early timeline and Dorsey, the co-founder of Twitter and Square.
He noted that Bitcoin’s first transaction occurred on Dorsey’s mother’s birthday, Jan. 11, while the last block mined by Satoshi happened on Dorsey’s father’s birthday, March 5, 2010.
Additionally, Murray claimed that Satoshi registered on the Bitcoin forum on Dorsey’s birthday, Nov. 19.
Cryptographic evidence
Murray also pointed to cryptographic clues, including a Bitcoin address allegedly created by Satoshi that begins with “jD2m”—which he interprets as “Jack Dorsey 2 Mint,” a reference to Dorsey’s former San Francisco residence.
He further noted that all original Bitcoin source code documents are timestamped at 4 a.m., a time once listed in Dorsey’s Twitter profile.
Skepticism and criticism
Despite these claims, skeptics remain unconvinced. BitMEX Research challenged the reliability of tracking Satoshi’s mining activity over time.
Others argue it is unlikely that Satoshi—who championed decentralization—would later oversee content moderation on Twitter.
Jameson Lopp, a well-known Bitcoin advocate, criticized Murray for making accusations without definitive proof, warning that such claims could put individuals at risk.
Dorsey has not addressed Murray’s findings.
