Hashdex Asset Management Ltd. has announced plans to close and liquidate the Hashdex Bitcoin ETF (NYSE Arca: DEFI), the sole series of the Hashdex Commodities Trust.

As of July 30, 2026, the fund held approximately $14.7 million in assets under management.

Hashdex continues to manage over $200 million in assets across products available to U.S. investors.

Reasons behind the decision

Hashdex said it continuously monitors its product line based on factors including assets under management, trading liquidity, operating costs, investor interest, and how each fund fits within its broader index-based range.

The firm stated the closure was decided after weighing these factors alongside other operational considerations, with the sponsor authorizing the liquidation.

The modest size of the fund stands in contrast to larger competitors tracked in the U.S. spot ETF market, where products like BlackRock’s IBIT dominate flows.

Key dates for shareholders

Shareholders can sell their shares on NYSE Arca through the close of business on August 17, 2026, the last trading day.

The fund will stop accepting creation orders from authorized participants after that date, and shares will be delisted from NYSE Arca.

Investors who still hold shares as of the last trading day will receive a cash liquidating distribution, expected on or around August 28, 2026.

Liquidation of bitcoin holdings

Following the final trading day, the fund will sell off its remaining bitcoin and cease pursuing its investment objective.

The firm warned that the distribution will reflect closing costs and any movements in the price of bitcoin during the wind-down, noting that such movements may be substantial.
