  • The wallet was dormant for nearly 10 years until this recent activity.
  • Renewed speculation surrounds the identity of Bitcoin’s creator, Satoshi Nakamoto.

An ancient Bitcoin whale, who mined BTC during the network’s first months in 2009, has transferred another 10 BTC to Kraken on Oct. 3, valued at $610,000.

This brings the total amount sent to Kraken since September 24 to $3.58 million, according to blockchain data firm Arkham Intelligence.

Total holdings

The whale’s wallet, dormant for nearly a decade, holds 1,169 Bitcoin, worth $72.4 million today.

Arkham noted that the wallet had remained inactive since 2014 when the value of the coins was significantly lower, rising from $474,000 to over $80 million.

Satoshi theories

This activity coincides with renewed interest in Bitcoin’s mysterious creator, Satoshi Nakamoto, ahead of HBO’s upcoming documentary Money Electric: The Bitcoin Mystery set for release on Oct. 8.

The film suggests that Len Sassaman, a deceased American computer scientist and cypherpunk, may have been Nakamoto.

However, Sassaman’s widow, Meredith Patterson, previously stated that to her knowledge:

Len was not Satoshi.
