Key Takeaways

  • Saylor expects Bitcoin to represent 7% of global capital.
  • MicroStrategy has seen an 825% return on its Bitcoin investments.

MicroStrategy co-founder and chairman Michael Saylor has set a bold new target for Bitcoin, predicting it could hit $13 million by 2045.

Saylor shared his outlook during an interview with CNBC’s Squawk Box, stating that Bitcoin could represent 7% of the world’s capital due to its zero counterparty risk.

The numbers

To reach $13 million, Bitcoin would need to climb 23,417% from its current value of $55,279.

If this target is met, Bitcoin’s market capitalization would swell to $257.26 trillion, a dramatic increase from today’s $1.09 trillion.

Other predictions

This projection surpasses other predictions, including VanEck’s estimate of Bitcoin reaching $2.9 million by 2050.

Saylor’s timeline is also much shorter than VanEck’s.

The asset management firm based its forecast on Bitcoin’s future role in trade and the likelihood of central banks holding 2.5% of their assets in Bitcoin.

MSTR

Saylor also highlighted MicroStrategy’s impressive gains from its Bitcoin strategy, which began in August 2020. The company has purchased over $8.3 billion in Bitcoin, and Saylor claims it has outperformed major stocks. He noted MSTR’s 825% return on its Bitcoin investments, compared to NVIDIA’s 821% growth during the same period.
